How Do I Measure Windows for Blinds?

Measuring correctly is one of the most important parts of choosing made-to-measure blinds, because even small differences can affect how neatly the blind fits and how smoothly it operates.

The first decision is whether the blind will sit inside the window recess or outside the recess. For a recess fit, the width should be measured in three places — top, middle and bottom — using the narrowest measurement. The drop should also be measured in three places, using the shortest point. This helps account for walls and plaster that may not be perfectly straight.

For an exact fit, measurements are taken across the area you want the blind to cover, allowing enough overlap for privacy and light control.

Different blind types often need different allowances. Roller blinds, Venetian blinds, Roman blinds and shutters can all have slightly different fitting requirements depending on brackets, fabric width, controls and recess depth.

That is why many customers choose to use our free measuring service, ensuring every blind is sized correctly for the window and the chosen product. Combined with a free consultation, we can also advise on the most suitable blind styles, fabrics and practical options for each room before anything is ordered.
